What is ISO 9001 Certification?

Definition: ISO 9001 is defined as the international standard that specifies requirements for a quality management system (QMS). The standard is used by organizations to demonstrate their capacity to consistently produce products and services that meet customer and regulatory requirements. It is the most widely used standard in the ISO 9000 series and the only standard in the series to which enterprises can certify.

Explanation

ISO 9001 explained

IS0 9001 is the world’s most recognised Quality Management System Standard. It has been adopted by over 1 million organizations across the world and is used to monitor, manage and improve the quality of products and services. It is a powerful business improvement tool that provides the foundation and guidance required to help an organization to achieve management excellence as well as to consistently satisfy their customers' expectations and regulatory obligations.

There are seven Quality Management Principles upon which the ISO 9001 requirements for Quality Management Systems are based. They are all seen as equally important to running a good qualify management system and equally applicable to product or service- based organizations:

  • Customer Focus
  • Leadership
  • Engagement of People
  • The Process Approach
  • Improvement
  • Evidence-based Decision Making
  • Relationship Management

ISO 9001:2015 is the most recent revision of the ISO 9001 Quality Management Standard, replacing ISO 9001:2008 as of September 2018.
