Utimaco offers the first Payment HSM in the market with a FIPS 140-3 Certification

AACHEN, Germany – June 4, 2025 – Utimaco, a leading global provider of IT security solutions, today announced its flagship Payment Hardware Security Module (HSM) - Atalla AT1000 Payment HSM has obtained the FIPS 140-3 certification by NIST. This makes Utimaco the first and currently only HSM vendor to offer a Payment HSM providing the highest security for payment processing and data protection following the latest NIST standard. 

Certifications are the central framework for security and trust in digital payments. To address technology and market changes as well as threat landscape developments, certifications are constantly evolving to ensure continuous execution of digital payment and further financial transaction processes in the most secure way, efficiently protecting all parties and data involved. 

FIPS 140-3 is the latest standard set by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). First introduced in 2019, it will become the successor of the current level FIPS 140-2, with both FIPS standards still being accepted as active and current. 

As a sign of technical readiness and compliance with the latest requirements, Utimaco has upgraded its Payment HSM certifications to FIPS 140-3 for its Atalla AT1000 Payment HSM, making it the first Payment HSM in the market to receive this certification and proving Utimaco’s position as technology leader in the industry.
