Utimaco KeyBRIDGE POI integrates with Verifone VeriShield Remote Key (VRK) for Encrypted Key Loading

Partnership to deliver the highest level of trust and assurance to financial point of sale (POS) transactions and peace of mind to end customers

CAMPBELL, Calif. – Oct. 29, 2024 – Utimaco, a leading global provider of IT security solutions, announced today an integration with its KeyBRIDGE POI and Verifone’s key-block-based remote key technology to provide real-time key loading to all estates and service providers that deploy Verifone's payment devices. This integration enables secure key transfer between KeyBRIDGE POI and Verifone Payment Devices in compliance with the latest PCI PIN and P2PE standards.

The presence of unencrypted keys increases the risk to sensitive payment information, such as PINs and cardholder information, at point-of-sale (POS) terminals. Working together, Verifone and Utimaco technologies facilitate the loading of encrypted keys for improved security and compliance.

Customers of Verifone and Utimaco gain: 

• Increased security: Encrypted key loading eliminates the vulnerabilities associated with handling unencrypted keys, even within highly secure key injection facilities (KIFs) for local injection.
• Reduced total cost of ownership: Encrypted key loading saves time and money by lowering compliance costs associated with protecting legacy key loading and improving deployment timelines with the ability to load keys remotely over the network.
• Decreased compliance scope: Encrypted key loading eliminates facility and procedural controls, reducing compliance scope. Furthermore, leveraging Utimaco’s remote key loading as a service transfers the key generation compliance burden from the customer to Utimaco.

Utimaco and Verifone have maintained a long-standing partnership in the payments industry, and this new chapter enables Utimaco to deliver Verifone’s remote key-loading technology on-premises to satisfy compliance mandates and lower deployment costs in the POS market, phasing out the more vulnerable unencrypted legacy key-loading techniques burdened with extra compliance scope and logistics costs.
