Aachen, Germany - 14 October 2025 – Utimaco, a leading global provider of IT security solutions, today announced that the implementations of the Post Quantum-Crypto (PQC) algorithms LMS, ML-KEM and ML-DSA, successfully passed the CAVP testing by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). These results e certify the future-proof security of the “Quantum Protect” application package as the hardware security module (HSM)-based cryptographic technology allowing the company’s customers to protect now for future threats.
The advent of quantum computers poses a threat to today’s cryptographic landscape. A cryptanalytically relevant quantum computer that could break common public key schemes such as RSA or ECC is expected by 2030. While that may seem far away, organizations need to plan their migration to Post Quantum Cryptography (PQC) now in order to stay secure. Following the timeline set by NIST last year, the European Commission also reinforces its cybersecurity with PQC and laid out a timeline for its member states to “start transitioning to post-quantum cryptography by the end of 2026. At the same time, the protection of critical infrastructures should be transitioned to PQC as soon as possible, no later than by the end of 2030”.
Utimaco has been working for a long time on solutions that give its customers a head start in the migration to PQC. The company received Frost & Sullivan’s 2024 Global Competitive Strategy Leadership Award in the Post-Quantum Cryptography industry in recognition of its efforts. The launch of Quantum Protect, and the unique free, fully functional Quantum Protect simulator earlier this year, marked a further milestone in Utimaco’s PQC development. Utimaco’s SDK functionality, that comes standardized with its HSMs, allows its customers to customize their PQC algorithm-based functionalities according to individual business requirements.
“With our certified algorithms available through our GP HSM application package ‘Quantum Protect’, we are providing an easy to implement, secure and flexible solution to enable reliable protection of digital data and to making critical infrastructures resilient against future threats involving quantum computing technology.” said Nils Gerhardt, CTO at Utimaco. “Our solution unifies PQC-ready cryptography with flexible performance options and the fulfillment of highest security requirements based on logical and physical security.”
